Purpose

The purpose of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is to change “lean backward meetings” to “lean forward meetings”, where the result is more participation, more insights surfaced, more engagement and, ultimately, more commitment and faster implementations.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method (LSP) is a facilitated thinking, communication and problem-solving technique for use with organizations, teams, and individuals. It draws on extensive research from the fields of business, organizational development, psychology and learning, and is based on the concept of “hand knowledge.”

Elena Drecheva, Managing Director @ Konica Minolta

For our team of account managers, we held a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Workshop, facilitated by Dimitar Stoev, from Learn Valley Ltd. The workshop turned out to be a real learning experience for our team of professional salespeople. The theme of the workshop was Cross Sale and Up Sale. The feedback from the participants was very positive because they were able to reach important conclusions through this unconventional method.

The format of the workshop, with no lecture part and no presentations, appealed to our colleagues and provoked them to change their perspective and see the problems they are facing through the eyes of the rest of the team members. Visualizing ideas through LEGO has enabled them to unleash their creative side, which is also a distinctive part of the method. The method allows participants to visualize their strengths and obstacles through building models with LEGO, and to understand the strengths and obstacles each member of the rest of the team faces as well. It has been curious for everyone to see and hear how others express themselves in ways that are so different and atypical from the standard everyday forms of communication.

"The nice thing about the workshop was that we could, through creativity and with a good tone, briefly describe the challenges we face with the Up Sales and Cross Sale processes, evaluate ourselves as part of the company and what we would like to be, what we could change to become better and successful. It was valuable for us to be reminded that the personal goals in front of us are also the overall goals of the team and how important the role of the team is for the success of each one of us."

What happens in a workshop with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method?

Our Facilitators are trained, certified and maintain certification through the Association of Master Trainers in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Method, Denmark.

The Association was founded in response to the 2010 decision by the LEGO Company to make the basic LEGO SERIOUS PLAY idea commonly available through their Creative Commons License. This led to an increased interest in the method and in offering training in facilitating and designing with the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method. The purpose of the Association is to determine and observe global quality standards for facilitator training thus avoiding the risk of diluting the method and infringing on others copy rights.
